Pistons for 600 stroked with WLA flywheels

    Hi

Im new to this site. We have just purchased a 29 600 101 thats been stroked with WLA flywheels. We suspect the pistons used are not coming up high enough therefore need to be changed.

Does anyone know of a piston that I can buy off the shelf in Melbourne to suit.

Any feedback would be much appreciated.

Try Jim Parker in Ashwood, he may well have correct ones in stock, it used to be quite a common conversion for 741 motors, as well as earlier scouts. the 741 has the same stroke as a 37" scout, with a smaller standard bore, usually bored out to the 2.75" of the scout now, for piston avaiability. With HD 45 " flywheels that makes it a 45" too, with a bits more guts.

The 741 cylinders will fit straight on your 37" scout too, and are a lot easier to find.

What is your piston height at the moment ?

Let us know what you find out and how you go, pics and news for the 101 magazine would be good too.

    cheers,

     Tim

    Hi Tim

    Thanks for the reply

The bike is currently with Jim as he is sorting out the magneto. He suspects there maybe a piston problem. I'm just trying to educate myself on what we might be facing, so I have a better understanding when I talk with Jim later this week. I will definitely keep you updated, can't wait to get it on the road.

"Thank God for Jim, otherwise it wouldn't happen"

    Regards

Congratulations on the new bike, by the way. Very keen to hear how it goes, and what you find out.

    cheers,

    Haydn,

Any success finding a piston to suit your stroked Scout?  Curious to hear how you handled this issue.

    Hi Gene

Long story short ironically the pistons would have been ok. With a newly acquired reconditioned maggy, replacing valve followers and still not running. The front head was removed revealing a damaged cylinder wall.

Bike went from needing to be sorted to being totally unknown and requiring too large an investment,  it was certainly not as advertised . Contradictory information surrounding the restoration was a growing concern.

Sold it back to him. very disappointing.

    Thanks for your interest

Sorry to hear that but it probably was a smart move. Hopefully you'll find a new object soon. Maybe someone in the club has a hint of where to look.
