1930 rear wheel removal procedures

    Merry Christmas 101ers!

What is the procedure to remove the rear wheel from a 1930 101? I am wanting to replace the rear sprocket, front sprocket and new chain. The rear fender is hinged but do you pull the axle out after losing the nuts? Your expertise with steps would be appreciated!

    Thanks,

On the left side remove the bolt holding the anchor plate to the frame and remove the clevis pin from the brake rod.

On the right side remove the chain.

Remove the nuts holding the rear fender stays. Lift the hinged fender and hold it up with ropes or bungees.

Undo either left or right wheel spindle nut.

Support the wheel and pull out wheel spindle.

The wheel complete with brake drum and shoes can now be pulled back.

It's a bit tight so deflating the tyre can give a bit more wiggle room.

You can now remove the chainguard to get to the front sprocket. Note at you can only remove/replace the chainguard with the wheel out.

Removed the rear wheel and rear sprocket looks pretty worn, see attached pic. The front sprocket looks good, not much wear that I can tell, notice pic. The chain is a RK-50, Japan made. I counted the rivets with the master link and was 108. I’ve seen chains quoted 120-130 links, I’m confused. How do you check for chain wear? Stretched out the chain measured 68” long with master link. Rear sprocket is 40 tooth and front is 21 tooth. Where is the best place to get sprockets and chain?

    thanks
