How many 101s are declaring for the Cannonball ? might be a good idea to have a communal spares pool ? Interesting to note that whilst between Aplerins crew and the Rinkers , we had parts for a couple of spare 101 45 motors , but could not fix Marcin Grelas heavily modified motor , as nothing was standard . For example , the stroked motor reqired extremely small height honda pistons .Doug Wrothke fitted a new pair of cylinders en route, but was using original valve collars and keepers , while all the spares were for the more modern type tapered keepers . A problem easily overcome with access to Competition distributors machine shop in Sturgis , but a set of old ones thrown in the spares box of one of the support crews would have helped Doug save a couple of hours .
