metric fasteners on an export engine?

My motor, EG766, came from Sweden via Norway, and as I'm beginning to remove the heads I find the head bolts are not 1/2" or 9/16", but somewhere in between.  A 14mm is close but still a little sloppy in my opinion.  Would the fasteners on a motor built for export have metric fasteners?  Maybe Whitworth?

The threads must have been altered by some mechanic or perhaps distorted by overtorquing or rust. In my opinion there was no reason for the Indian company to change threads for any export bikes.

My EGP 1154 is from Norway has US threads. The only metric threads I have found on it are yoke spring retaining nuts on the Mesinger No.3  half-pan saddle and they looked to be original. regards geir.

Thank-you for the replies.  I was referring to the bolt heads and not the threads, sorry if I wasn't clear!  These head bolt threads are 7/16 -20,  but the bolt heads are too large to take a 1/2" wrench and too small for a 9/16" wrench and I've never seen a 17/32" wrench... so I used a 14mm with success but it triggered my question!
