Carburetor; Schebler vs Linkert

    Hello Guys,is anybody running Linkert carbs on their 45" 101? because runs better or more linkerts & parts available ? If so,what models? Also are there better connecting rods being used on engine build?  thanks in advance, Rex

    Yup, linkerts are fine. You may need to change the venturi size, but they usually run fine, just need dialling in. They are basically scheblers design anyway. M7 is the aftermarket replacement for the smaller scout carb, M 741 and M 541 also have the same body size and work well.

    Conrods- Indian rods a very strong and well designed. sport scout rods are the same but beefed up around the big end. Carillo do a scout replacement, have used a few, but they always seem to have some little issue thatneeds grinding  or relieving. Paul Osborn, at Truett and Osborn, in Wichita, makes excellent scout replacement flywheels. He says that Indian rods are excellently engineered and made.The biggest issue with scout rods is that people often try and press in new big end races unsupported and this can break the female rod. They very rarely fail under use. Check any second hand rods for cracks around the nib at the bottom of the big end, this is where they will break if someone has done this.

    S & S makes a complete crankshaft for the 101.
