My 1928 101 Scout is an export model.  After a season of running, I am thinking about taking a look inside the Bosch magneto.  It has gradually become harder to start although it seems to run fine.  Is there anything in particular about maintenance of this magneto compared to the Splitdorf?

    Hi Brian

If you are interested on the History of Bosch and the inside-live of magnetos, you can read all of this on  http://histor.ws/dmag/index.htm

On a german page there are also many draws and manuals about Bosch magnetos  http://www.nsu-greifzu.de/html/nsu_infothek.html

Normaly (e.g. Scout 101) it was a Bosch DVAR. May be there are also other Bosch models on later Indians.

DGP4318 was the first 1929 45.  See the R&O for other visual cues.

Just get the R&O Manual of the club and you will have all that information.
Note that early 1929 bikes were basically the same as 1928 - only minor things like carburettor numbers are different. (´28 is DLX51, ´29 is DLX64 for the 45ci bikes)
Late ´29 had drop center rims, no decompression rod trough the gastank and other changes like the engine ventilation on the cam-cover rather than on the left engine-case.
    Hope this helps.

The Bosch magneto on my 101 Scout is type "ZEV".  I have a reprint of the Bosch ZEV manual.
